Reims is the birthplace of aviation. In 1908, Henri Farman made an important aviation breakthrough when he made the first flight (between Bouy and Reims) and when he broke the world record for speed. Henry Farman is known as the world’s first pilot to have taken the risk of no longer merely circling around his airbase, but making a “town-to-town trip”.
In 1909, the first major aviation meeting was held - the “Grande Semaine aéronautique de Champagne”.
